Somerset Paralympian officially opens new fitness facilities at 1610 Chard following major upgrade
Somerset Paralympian Footballer Giles Moore officially opened new fitness facilities at 1610 Chard following a major refurbishment of the health and wellbeing centre.
Goalkeeper Giles who was part of Team GB 7 a side football team at the Rio Olympics in 2016 cut a ribbon to officially open the new facilities which include a holistic exercise studio, café social and reception area.
Since 1610 Chard was launched in 2016 membership at the Jarman Way site has doubled and demand has increased for its state of the art facilities. The refurbishment means that the new facilities now extend across the whole of the ground floor of the building.
New changing facilities have been provided as well as a holistic studio catering for dance, Pilates, Yoga, Tai Chi as well as mother and baby classes. Sports Massage services will also be made available for the first time.
Plans are also in place to develop a state of the art Active Lab facility, which will provide in depth analysis of body make up as well as personalised ideal fitness training programmes including DNA testing, blood sugar levels, cholesterol and body biometrics measurements.
A new self- service café and social area with seating is also being created to act as a community hub for social gatherings and events such as fitness and mental health workshops. An innovative ‘Living Wall’ constructed from Reindeer Moss to welcome members to the centre’s reception area has been installed to enhance the ambience of the centre and to promote a sense of ‘Wellbeing’.
1610 Chard already includes the UK’s largest PRAMA studio, a dedicated Group Cycle studio and a fully equipped gym with interactive cardio machines.
1610 Chard Manager Trish Bishop says that the new facilities illustrate how 1610 aims to break new ground with new technology to meet customer’s needs which is proving to be a very successful approach; “1610 has always embraced the latest developments in the fitness industry to offer our members the most technologically advanced equipment. We have the UK’s largest PRAMA interactive studio and now we are adding to this with an Active Fitness Lab and Holistic studio. We never stand still in terms of development and it is paying off with a doubling of membership. We combine the best of technology with a diverse range of facilities and a personal approach to customer service, We have staff trained in Mental Health First Aid to create a welcoming relaxed atmosphere and the new social hub being created will add to that to give the local community in Chard a 21st century facility in tune with their needs.”
