From factory workers to schoolchildren, Chard is being galvanised by 1610 to take part in a global fitness campaign to help fight obesity.

The Let’s Move for a Better World campaign is being run in partnership with Technogym and involves 18 countries around the world encouraging local communities to become more active by donating moves or physical activity to the fitness campaign during three weeks in March (11-31st March). 1610 Chard is taking part in Let’s Move for a Better World challenge and has a target of a million moves to accomplish. The moves can be donated through a wide range of physical activities in the gym using Technogym equipment, in exercise classes or simply by taking part in a variety of outdoor sports or physical activities.

1610 will be offering free 7 day passes for anyone wanting to try out the facilities at 1610 Chard where they would be able to donate their fitness moves to the campaign.

The number of moves donated could mean local schools winning free fitness equipment and training provided by Technogym.

1610 Chard staff will be taking their fitness challenge to the community involving workers at the Oscar Mayer food production factory (18 March) and pupils from three local schools who will be working out at the UK’s largest PRAMA studio which is based at 1610 Chard at the Jarman way site.

1610 Wellness Coach Brad Bailey who is organising the events in Chard says that staff are confident that they will be able to make the million moves target; “We have hundreds of centre members as well as schoolchildren, sports teams and local workers taking part in Let’s Move and we will all be running, dancing and working our way through March to try and meet the target. Local schools could benefit as well as the local BHF shop in Chard so it maybe a global campaign but it is local communities who benefit directly so we want to engage with as many people as possible to get them moving”.
