Many parents ask what the best age is for a child to begin experiencing a swimming pool and swimming lessons. Quite simply the younger a child starts their journey of learning aquatic skills the better.

Lessons for babies and toddlers can be an exciting and enriching experience for both the infant and parent alike. For most babies and toddlers an aquatic environment is natural, with them being most at home in the water. Babies and toddlers possess the most amazing reflexes in the water and a good swimming teacher will be able to work with parents to show them how to make the most of these to enhance baby’s aquatic skills and water confidence.

Most parents find that their baby or toddler gets much more out of the swimming lesson than simply learning to swim. Of course this is important so parents should find that the lessons progressively improve water awareness and safety but it will also promote bonding between baby and parent, improves physical development such as strength and coordination, early development of learning skills, and strengthens routines.

The lessons are not just for the baby or toddler either, most parents find the experience to be part of a group of people who are experiencing similar situations reassuring and rewarding as well.

There are lots of options out there for baby, toddler and pre-school swimming lessons but they need not cost lots or be expensive. At 1610 our specialist baby and toddler lessons are priced at the same rate as our child swimming lessons because we believe it’s so important they should be as accessible as possible.

Our lessons are structured around ages so we can ensure the delivery of swimming can be pitched and communicated at the right level in-line with a child’s overall development and our teachers are well placed to differentiate based on swimming abilities. No one knows your child better than you do, so to ensure the lessons suit your child at a young age we ask parents to enter the water with children until they reach at least three years, sometimes older if we feel that’s what is best for them and their development.
